For more effective lead generation and targeted B2B engagement, the client wanted to enrich its existing database of over 1.5 million Amazon and Shopify sellers by adding critical business attributes, such as official websites, contact information for key decision-makers, product categories, and operating geographies.

  • Inconsistent Seller Data across Marketplaces: Seller data on Amazon varied significantly across different countries, requiring extensive data cleansing to standardize formats, resolve inconsistencies, and ensure reliability across global records. Each marketplace had unique seller profile structures that required customized data extraction approaches.
  • Website Discovery Complexity: Many sellers operated without a prominent web presence, requiring sophisticated web research strategies combining business names, locations, product categories, and trademark information. Traditional data research methods often yielded incomplete or inaccurate results.
  • Decision Maker Identification: Distinguishing between individual sellers using personal names versus established companies presented unique challenges. For company entities, identifying the actual decision makers required deep LinkedIn data mining, corporate registry analysis, and cross-referencing multiple data sources (such as ZoomInfo, Bizprofiles, Bizapedia, Buzzfile, OpenCorporates.com, and DNB.com).
  • Language Barriers and Data Normalization Issues: The international sellers' records posed data normalization issues with name translations, domain variations (.com, .cn, .net), and regional naming conventions. For sellers based in China and other non-English speaking regions, data retrieval involved language translation and regional business registry lookups.
  • Data Verification and Quality Control: Ensuring accuracy across 1.5 million records required robust data verification processes, especially for contact information and business address validation.
  • Need for Data Compliance and Security: Ensuring complete GDPR and CCPA compliance throughout the research process required implementing advanced data handling protocols and secure verification procedures without compromising research effectiveness or timeline commitments.

By leveraging LinkedIn queries (site:linkedin.com "company domain" and complex Boolean searches), business directories, and domain-based searches, we tracked down verified individuals in leadership roles. For ambiguous company names, we performed deep scans on DNB, OpenCorporates, BizProfiles, ZoomInfo, Buzzfile, and Bizapedia.

Following the identification of decision-makers, we moved on to structured list building segmented by seller type (Amazon or Shopify), geographic location, and decision-maker role (e.g., Founder, Operations Manager, Ecommerce Lead). Where Cognism yielded no results, we leveraged manual research across LinkedIn, company websites, and business directories to fill data gaps.

We leveraged translation tools to decode business names for Chinese sellers. Through registry lookups and intelligent keyword parsing, we identified and validated business websites.
