GoodFirms’ Survey: SunTec India Shares Insights on How to Secure User Data with Tailored App Permissions

GoodFirms’ Survey

SunTec India Recognized as Research Partner in GoodFirms Survey on App Data Permissions

A Proactive Stance on Cybersecurity & Data Privacy in the AI Era

With AI advancements and their deep integration in daily lives, user data privacy and security have never been more critical.

The recent GoodFirms’ survey, "Why Do Apps Keep Asking for Permissions?" aims to create awareness and educate both users and developers on their respective perceptions of app usage behaviors concerning data permissions. It delves into why apps request specific data, how users feel about sharing their personal information, and the shared responsibility in protecting it.

SunTec India, as a research partner in this study, shared valuable insights that highlighted a significant disconnect between user expectations and app behaviors.

Key Survey Insights as Observed

The research revealed significant user concerns about app permissions:

  • 73% of users are bothered when apps ask for data collection permissions
  • 58% believe permissions can compromise their data, yet only 13% refuse all data collection
  • 46% view many requested permissions as unnecessary for app functionality
  • 66% believe privacy protection is a shared responsibility between developers and users

Addressing these shortcomings as specialists in designing and developing secure applications, AI/ML solutions, Agentic ecosystems, DevOps pipelines, and more, app development, AI/ML, cloud consulting, DevOps, and more, SunTec India also discussed how users interact with various app permissions, such as location access, and shed some light on how developers can better protect user data.

Our Perspective on Data Security

As a leading IT and digital engineering firm, we believe that staying digitally protected requires a proactive and adaptable approach, especially in light of the increasing number of cybersecurity threats. The same AI technologies that enhance functionality can also be leveraged by malicious actors for more sophisticated attacks.

That’s why we have a security-first mindset and embed safeguards into everything we do.

Here is how we ensure top-tier security in all our digital products:

  • Ethical Governance: We ensure our solutions are developed with a strong ethical framework. This includes rigorous oversight to prevent algorithmic bias, protect user privacy, and ensure transparency in the use of data.
  • Continuous Vulnerability Management: Our teams use specialized tools to continuously scan for and patch vulnerabilities in code and infrastructure, minimizing the attack surface and staying one step ahead of emerging threats and zero-day attacks.
  • Threat Mitigation: We implement encryption protocols for cloud-stored data, secure transmission methods like TLS/FTPS, and robust access controls, including multi-factor authentication, secure password policies, and role-based permissions.

While users also have a role to play (using strong passwords, enabling multi-factor authentication, and being mindful of permissions), the primary responsibility lies with developers to build resilience and security from within.

At SunTec India, we take on this responsibility by leveraging the latest advancements in AI not only to innovate but also to strengthen our clients' digital ecosystems against tomorrow's challenges.
