Client Success Story

High-Volume Real Estate Image Processing & HDR Bracketing for a US-Based Rental Aggregator

THE CLIENT

US-Based Property Rental & Homestay Aggregator

Our client is a US-based aggregator of fully furnished rental apartments, offering flexible short-term and monthly lease options across the country. With a portfolio of 5,000+ properties, it serves a new generation of renters who prioritize mobility, comfort, and seamless move-in experiences, making high-quality visual presentation of every unit a business-critical requirement.

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

End-to-End Photo Retouching for a High-Volume Rental Portfolio

The client needed a scalable, process-driven photo retouching operation with the capacity to handle large daily volumes without compromising visual consistency. All image upload, processing, and delivery were to be managed exclusively through Canto DAM — a digital asset management system central to their operations. Critically, the client required dedicated resources: a fixed team solely focused on this engagement, not shared across other accounts.

  • End-to-end editing of 10,000+ images per month with daily turnaround
  • HDR bracketing and exposure blending for interior real estate photography
  • Color correction, straightening, alignment, and sky replacement
  • Image conversion to standardized formats and resizing to platform specifications
  • Category-based image sequencing for structured, listing-ready property galleries
  • Dedicated, account-exclusive team of editors and quality control specialists
PROJECT CHALLENGES

Managing Volume, Daily Deadlines & AI Limitations at Scale

  • High-Volume Daily Delivery: At 10,000+ images per month with a daily delivery commitment of 350+ images, a purely manual workflow was not sustainable. Maintaining throughput without sacrificing quality required a deliberate hybrid approach — manual editing for precision-dependent tasks, AI-assisted tools for repetitive, simple corrections.
  • Adapting to Canto DAM Workflows: The entire workflow, including batch upload, queue management, editing status, and final delivery, ran through Canto DAM, which required a fast learning curve. Learning the system's logic and protocols while simultaneously running at full production capacity was one of the steepest early challenges of the engagement.
  • Strict Output Standardization: Every image had to conform to exact naming conventions, resolution specifications, and category-based sequencing rules. A single deviation in file format, naming structure, or sequence order risked disrupting the client's downstream publishing workflow.
  • Inconsistent Input Formats: Images were received in multiple formats and shooting conditions, with no consistency between batches. Normalizing these varied inputs into a uniform, platform-ready output added a layer of complexity and took additional time to every single delivery cycle.
  • The Limits of AI-Assisted Editing: AI tools were effective for controlled, repetitive tasks. At scale, batch processing failed when images carried different editing requirements — varying exposures, lighting conditions, or room types — producing inconsistent outputs that required manual correction. Resolution output also frequently fell outside the required export specifications.
OUR SOLUTION

From Raw HDR Captures to Listing-Ready Images Leveraging a Hybrid Editing Pipeline

To meet the client’s volume and quality requirements simultaneously, we followed a hybrid editing workflow combining AI-assisted automation with manual precision, executed by a dedicated team of 7 members, including 5 photo editors and 2 QC reviewers. We used Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom as the primary editing software, augmented by AI-assisted tools for select tasks:

Automated

Batch processing for base corrections, exposure balancing, sky replacement, and object removal

Manual

HDR bracketing, precision exposure blending, color grading, and alignment

Hybrid

AI accelerated repetitive tasks, but failed when images carried different shooting conditions or required varied output guidelines. For these, manual override was standard practice.

1

HDR Bracketing & Exposure Merging

Multiple bracketed exposures were merged and blended — combining tonal detail from highlights, midtones, and shadows — to produce a single, balanced final image. Automated exposure balancing was applied where shooting conditions were consistent; manual precision blending was used for complex or varied inputs.

2

Color Grading & White Balance Correction

Each image underwent color correction to ensure accurate, true-to-life tones aligned with the client's bright, natural aesthetic. White balance, saturation, and tone were adjusted to maintain visual consistency across all property types and room categories.

3

Perspective & Lens Distortion Correction

All images were corrected for lens distortion, perspective, and alignment. Vertical and horizontal straightening was applied to every frame to meet the clean, professional standard required for listing-ready real estate photography.

4

Real Estate Photo Retouching

Every image was retouched to professional listing standards — including object removal, sky replacement, and correction of minor imperfections. Retouching was applied with precision to ensure a natural, accurate representation of each property.

5

Image Resizing, Sequencing & Naming Convention

All images were resized to the required 16:9 ratio (2000px × 1125px) and exported in a standardized format. Files were named strictly per the client's convention and sequenced by property category — ensuring every delivery was listing-ready and platform-compliant for every batch. This was further validated by QC specialists before every upload.

Canto DAM: Asset Management & Delivery Workflow

The team operated a structured daily protocol — maintaining queue order, tracking editing status, and managing folder organization to ensure every batch was processed and delivered on schedule.
